Problem is bring a proven scorer in expecting him to do the same for us and it doesn't work out.

Look at Nick Haughton. A proven scorer of superb goals so who wouldn't love to see him in a Harriers shirt? Yet Fylde are third from bottom of the table and his goals aren't helping them right now.

We could sign him and he flops.

Villa to loan us Rashford for a month to get him match fit. We agree to pay 1% of his wages,

What's the alternative though? Never sign a proven goalscorer incase they flop? Sometimes they flop (Gold, Reid), sometimes they don't (Gash, Malbon). But if you never sign them, you have way less chance of ever having a 20+ goalscorer at the club.

What concerns me is the supposed meetings we've had with players and they opt for other clubs.
Totally agree. Why weren't we going all out to get hold of someone like Ricardo Rees or Alex Reid? The way PB describes some of these meetings, they sound more like general chats rather than approaches with real intent.

It honestly wouldn't bother me so much, except that this "not signing a striker" a situation has been going on for FOREVER.

And it’s important, in what is going to be a hectic run in, to have good options off the bench. Lutz is in, hopefully he does well but we need more.
Lambert has gone. Kellerman and Davis are not the sort of players you throw on when you need a goal. Tope? Hmmm

Okafor has come on for Brackley tonight and scored the winner in their game. Stuff like that, that impact is what we need when Hemmo and AMS are blowing.

The consensus seems to be that you can't tell whether your signing is going to be brilliant or a flop until they're embedded in the team. The following is from chat between fans of Oldham and Southend. "Mike Fondop is a real late-flowering player. Immediately prior to joining Latics he had a very poor scoring record. Zero at Hartlepool, 2 at Burton but now 36 in about 98 for Latics. Knocked about the Essex non-league scene when young, at Stanway and Billericay. Great find for Latics." So you sign a player based on instinct that they're going to fit in and thrive even if they haven't before? You don't know until they're up and running.

We'd have lost nothing by taking a punt on Okafor. Young player, local - I recall the comment about his mobility - but didn't seem to harm him last night!

Again, I look forward to it bring brought up at the fans' forum. Oh wait....

Some good points raised regarding an effective striker. I’ve asked the question before. Where are our scouts looking? Did we look at Johnstone from Redditch? Okafor and the numerous others mentioned on here?
2 hope’s, Bob Hope and no hope of getting these answered at a forum.
I’m willing to wager we go into Saturday with AMS once more leading the line. It’s a must win game. Chorley always cause us problems with their style and I expect a defensive, spoiling opposition, scoring after 80 mins with their only shot on target. Will we have scored prior to this point….or missed several “sitters”?

I'm with Humpy on this. I can't make it on Saturday, but you can already picture the highlights in your mind's eye, up to and including the late winner for Chorley.

If we spend Saturday afternoon with Dibble hoofing balls for Morgs I will tear out what hair I have left. Did Morgs win a single header last week? And if so, did it go to one of our players?

Morgs needs a rest. Three in midfield, the two wide men and Hemmings up top with Kouyhar sitting behind. Just can’t see PB ever dropping Morgs though,

Ams needs dropping and to be used as a last twenty man off the bench but brown doesn’t see that
if you couple goals with clean sheets you've a recipe for success

I'm really surprised PB hasn't tried this again, at least in the last 20 minutes of a game when we need a goal, as it resulted in 4 goals the last time he tried it...

I know what we need. A young left sided defender on loan for a month.
